Google Drive is NOT DEAD; Desktop app Killed & Replaced with Backup and Sync

Thanks to all the misleading titles and making me flip my table, here's my take on that “Google Drive is Dead” thing. I am an avid Google Drive User and I've been using it for years now. Pretty sure every single Android user is using their drive to store files and also backup your application data. And iOS users too because 5GB is not enough. :P And also, there are people who use the Google Drive via the Native PC application.

Now, good news is Google Drive is still here to stay. Just that, Google is shutting down the Google Drive App for Desktop PC and replacing it with Backup and Sync. And also for those who use G Suite (Business), Google announced Drive File Stream which will be replacing the Desktop application.

Backup and Sync, lets you backup and Sync your photos and files from folders and Storage hardware like SD Cards to the cloud, and will be available and accessible across all the platform. One of the reason I came across online, why Google Drive for PC application isn't convenient is because it requires you to use two separate apps for files and photos. Now this, is one way of your storage going bonkers. It uses a lot if you upload images to Drive, it uses up your space, but if you upload your images to Photos (using the “High”, not “Original” Settings) it doesn't. And the way it backup on the current Google Drive app, it's kinda manual. So that's that.

Now, Drive File Stream, is also an app that performs almost the same as Backup and Sync but like I said, it's for those G Suite Users. And you have a lot more team-oriented features, like on-demand file streaming and access to Team Drives. Below here you can see what really the difference is between these two applications. And that's that folks. Again, Google Drive, as a whole is NOT DEAD. If it was, I'd be throwing a tantrum right now. Just the application is being replaced. That's all. Just click here, to head over to the Backup and Sync app link and update it on your desktop. And for those who use G Suite, you can click here.
