VR: In Business - A day with the Fresnel Media!
And today I am going to emphasize more on business and one of the most popular technological advancement which involves vision. Yes, it’s Virtual Reality. VR has existed for quite a while and I am sure we all have tried VR in the olden days too… It’s not a completely new idea but it started in 1950s. Not sure how many of you remember the View-Master, where you have to insert a disk into the viewer, press the button to see the images close.
Haha. So yeah. But in 2007, VR came to the public. Literally to everybody by Google.
Google released the Street View in 2007. And that's all how it started.
We saw those mind blowing 360 degree Images in our browsers and got impressed. And today, as of now. We can not only view and experience VR Contents, but also create our own VR contents. Just in the past few months, we already saw too many VR stuff in the market and I have to say it’s pretty impressive. VR has created a huge impact in almost all fields. You can see immersive Youtube Videos in 360 with your Google Cardboard, Shoot a Panorama, Photo sphere with the device in your pocket and many more.
And yesterday (28th May 2016), I got to visit a Media company in Malaysia who’s a Google Trusted Street View Agency, Fresnel Media. I got to know more about VR used in business field. So, let’s go!
As we gathered at Fresnel Media Office... Yeap. I wasn’t alone. I was with few other people and I have to say, It sure does feel nice when you meet people with the same interest. So, the event started at 10 and we entered the meeting room. We met Shahram, Elika and Sean, who's a part of the Fresnel Media. And they started...
He talked about what they do and offer to their customers. And these were the five stuff they offered.
1. Google Business View
This consist of all the stuff we see currently in Google. The street View. But this time it’s not just street view but also a virtual Tour inside the building. They have done quite a number of projects on the Street View and here’s one of their projects they did with IOI Mall, Putrajaya. You can go to other floors too...
2. Commercial Photography
The name says it. They do quite a number of commercial photography. Cars, Food… you name it. And the shots they take is really really good. I can't post any of their pictures as they are copyrighted. So, I'll leave a link at the end of the post to check out their gallery.
3. Gigapixel Imaging
This is one of the stuff I find really interesting. Gigapixel Imaging comprises of a whooping 1 million pixels in an image. Giving you a detail that you never seen before. No matter how deep in you zoom, you can still see the words written on a building which is quite far. And read it out loud too.
Note: Zoom in as much as you want. What you see will blow your head off. It's legit stuff.
4. Product Virtual Reality
This is giving a virtual tour on a product. Giving a 360 look of the product.
5. Time Lapse Video
The frequency at which film frames are captured (the frame rate) is much lower than that used to view the sequence. When played at normal speed, time appears to be moving faster and thus lapsing.

And after all these, they brought us to the studio and explained us how it works. We were talking about the processes gone through when shooting a photo sphere, product VR and so on. One of the corner of the studio, there was this setup where they do product VR Shooting and the other one was this huge set. More like a photoshoot setup. I have to say the room was pretty white. And they told us that they are getting into Augmented Reality. They showed us a demo of it and it was really cool.
And this shows how much VR is used in business today. I am impressed to see VR in day to day lives where it does not helps their business get promoted but also makes our life easier. Let’s say you want to search for a particular shop in this Mall, and you wanna know where it’s located. You can just get it done by using your Google Street View app on your phone. And in terms of business POV, this would not only give the customer the convenience but also the only thing you need to share is the link and people get to see it. You don't really have to explain to them.
VR is something I am excited for. I am sure that we will be seeing more interesting and new VR related contents in the near future.
